Former NRL player Martin Kennedy received more than $100,000 from an unlicensed reptile trader to breed snakes, a court has heard. 9News

The 30-year-old is being sentenced for attempting to import regulated live animals and other animal matters into Australia.

A former Sydney and Brisbane prop, Kennedy's career ended after he was banned by an anti-doping tribunal ahead of the 2016 NRL season, Former NRL player Martin Kennedy is listed for sentence after previously pleading guilty to being involved in an exotic wildlife smuggling ring. Illegal reptile breeder and convicted fraudster Neil Simpson denied being involved with Kennedy’s offending and today told Downing Centre District Court he had given Kennedy $109,000 to buy and breed albino snakes between 2012 and 2016.
