A former Tasmanian mayor is facing misuse of office charges, after allegedly renting out her accommodation to two acting general managers at the council's expense.

A former Tasmanian mayor has been charged with breaching the Local Government Act after she allegedly used inside information to benefit financially.In 2019 council minutes, Ms Wisby says she offered discounted accommodation to "save council money"Debbie Lee Wisby was the mayor of Glamorgan Spring Bay Council, on Tasmania's east coast, for just over two and a half years.citing the impact of "constant criticism" on her health and wellbeing.

The ASU also lodged a formal complaint against Ms Wisby, alleging she had breached Tasmania's Local Government Act by renting her bed and breakfast to two acting general managers.Court documents show that in May this year, Director of Local Government Craig Limkin charged Ms Wisby with two counts of improper use of information and misuse of office.

It further alleges that the council paid her a sum of $1,800 for Mr Pearce's stay, and $1,500 for Mr Galea's, to a total of $3,300.Ms Wisby was also questioned by a fellow councillor about the alleged breach at a council meeting back in September 2019. Ms Wisby said in 2019 that "finding appropriate accommodation at a reasonable rate" was difficult in the Triabunna area, according to council minutes.
