A 'state-of-the-art' police precinct will be built in Townsville on the Willows Sports Complex site to bolster the city's crime-fighting capacity.

A Townsville stadium and the former home of the North Queensland Cowboys will be demolished and redeveloped into a "state-of-the-art" police precinct to bolster the city's crime-fighting capacity.Construction will begin in 2023, with the hub to open in 2025The state government will spend $30 million building the new facility on the grounds of the Willows Sports Complex, also known as 1300SMILES Stadium, at Kirwan.

"This will be a huge added piece of infrastructure into the Townsville community," Ms Palaszczuk said.The Cowboys relocated to Townsville's new $290 million stadium in the CBD in 2020.During the pandemic, the Willows Sports Complex has been used as a COVID-19 testing clinic.
