You don’t need a law degree to be an effective attorney-general. Courage to stand up for Victorians and the Westminster system is crucial, writes TimSmithMP | OPINION

Yes, of course, difficult decisions were needed to protect public health but as Waleed Aly recently said on ABC’s, “a politician’s job is not to follow health advice. Their job is to take health advice, consider it, place it in its proper context with a whole suite of other imperatives that are non-health imperatives as well as health imperatives, and then come to a decision.”

Of course, Victoria has had a non-lawyer as attorney-general before. Andrew McCutcheon, a long-term minister in the Cain and Kirner governments, and an architect by training, served as First Law Officer from 1987 until 1990.

TimSmithMP You're in the doghouse now, The Age.

TimSmithMP You don’t need a medical degree to be Chief Medical Officer….you don’t need midwifery qualifications to help women deliver their babies… you don’t need to have a teaching degree to teach….? Sorry TimSmithMP you were just getting me carried away..

TimSmithMP How can he stand up for anything when he is always on his knees doing interviews for a better job within the highest paid non government in the country.

TimSmithMP Shocking this looks like reality tv.

TimSmithMP But you do need a clue

TimSmithMP 😂

TimSmithMP Yes you do. End.

TimSmithMP TimSmithMP, as always, proves beyond any doubt that you really only need the most basic of intellects to be a Liberal MP.

TimSmithMP haven't you caused enough damage with inciting violence in Victoria? You proud of what the rioters did at the Shrine of Remembrance? If you have any dignity left you would retract this article. Out of curiosity does anyone know if Murdoch is planning to buy out The Age?

TimSmithMP Oh please!!!!!!

TimSmithMP Apparently, you don't need to have facts to publish a newspaper either. My dear ol Dad always read The Age. He would be horrified with the rubbish you print these days. ThisIsNotJournalism

TimSmithMP CORRECTION: Rukshan has 21,300 followers. NOT “hundred’s of thousands of as your headline says. This error needs to be corrected. Inflating his popularity in this way legitimises him and risks you contributing to perpetuating the violence.

TimSmithMP In that case, I’m a journalist. BREAKING NEWS: This opinion piece by a YouTube lawyer is a prime example of the death of the expert. A vote for this bloated imbecile is no different to choosing a butcher to perform brain surgery, because, y’know, they both cut up stuff.

TimSmithMP 😂😂😂🤪

TimSmithMP 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Gawd even those with law Degrees need more than that… like decency ethics etc

TimSmithMP How insulting to the role of Attorney General and to all Victorians, past and present

TimSmithMP Rich white man from the ranks of elite private schools who couldn’t use a politics degree to win the politics of controlling a pie company claims he doesn’t need a law degree to be the first law officer of Victoria. He’s the living embodiment of unearned privilege. SpringSt

TimSmithMP 😂🤦‍♂️

TimSmithMP Hahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

TimSmithMP Thanks Timmy! Also don’t need to be a doctor to operate, or a pilot to fly a plane, or even intelligent to be a politician!

TimSmithMP You do need a functioning brain though. Tim possesses neither.

TimSmithMP Like you don’t need a medical degree to be a doctor. Yeah, right.

TimSmithMP So DonutDick is advocating DonutDick as a good choice by Lobster as shadow-attorney general. Wow. Will be nominating himself as good candidate for Pope next.

TimSmithMP This is a joke. Tim Smith doesn't need to know anything about the law to be Shadow Attorney General because Tim Smith says so. So neither The Age nor Tim could find anyone else to support him?

TimSmithMP Ha ha this bloke is a hoot

TimSmithMP What appalling tripe. It’s like saying you don’t need a surgeon to perform surgery. Of course the Attorney-General needs a law degree. Several I’d say.

TimSmithMP Oh geez , don’t tell me someone thinks this boy can be attorney general. A bigger goose , I have never seen.

TimSmithMP He bought a puzzle that said 3-5 years, it only took him 2 days.. Go Tim

TimSmithMP Put the formal qualifications aside and consider the other fairly obvious requirements - integrity, decency, intellectual rigour, discipline, respect, fair mindedness, attention to detail, factual - and you begin to realise qualifications are the least of your, and our worries!

TimSmithMP 🤣….oh wait, you’re actually serious 😱

TimSmithMP 🤣🤣🤣

TimSmithMP 🙄 you are not obliged to publish this dribble you know

TimSmithMP yes to do ! Law is complex and it takes years of practice! You have none of the above

TimSmithMP Still no achievement of any worth since he was Daddy’s fastest sperm!

TimSmithMP Hilarious! Just more evidence that the Age is barely readable now. Who next? A piece from caring human philanthropist Clive Palmer? Notable vaccine expert Bunnings Karen?

TimSmithMP Awww look, mummy dressed little Timmy all nice today so he could do show and tell at kindy

TimSmithMP ThisisNotJournalism DonutDick

TimSmithMP In an IQ competition between TimSmithMP and a box of hammers…well thanks to this article, the box of hammers is happily celebrating their victory.

TimSmithMP Standing up for ppl, holding Govt to account, etc are requirements for all politicians, especially in opposition, but have nothing to do with being AG AG is about ensuring what the Govt does is legal so requires legal qualifications. This article shows a worrying ignorance.

TimSmithMP Yeah, bloody qualifications getting in the way of job suitability again.

TimSmithMP Yeah right. In the same way you don't need a civil engineering degree build infrastructure. Actually, Tim would probably say that too.

TimSmithMP 🤣🤣🤣Who are you kidding

TimSmithMP Didn’t your mates Bernie and Craig 💩 all over the Westminster system! What a crock you guys are, didn’t see you condemn them!

TimSmithMP Bwahaha What a crock! Tim has been looked after by his good mate Guy . That’s why he got the gig!

TimSmithMP I believe you need a brain.....ooooops. Missed out again DimTim

TimSmithMP You don’t need a law degree but you do need a functioning brain - poor Timmy misses out big time in this category ,

TimSmithMP Just when I thought the Age couldn't go any lower, is this a joke.

TimSmithMP Delusional 😥😥😥

TimSmithMP That's like saying you don't need a medical degree to be a surgeon.

TimSmithMP Lol Tim Smith making the case for himself to have a certain job. No conflict of interest there. And the Age published it?

TimSmithMP You don’t need one of these 🧠 to be Tim Smith, apparently

TimSmithMP Nobody sits on the fence when it comes to Tim Smith. He’s either a brilliant political brawler or an arrogant Trumpian fool. Attorney-General a job for legal expertise, not political head-kicking.

TimSmithMP Whether you need a law degree or not may be debatable. A brain however, is recommended.

TimSmithMP Does Tim Smith have the right qualifications for any public office?

TimSmithMP Seriously, you let a politician write an opinion piece on why he is competent in his own job? What sort of journalism is this? Your paper isn't even worth flushing these days.

TimSmithMP ‘We want to wrap our arms around Melbourne’ with community minded, feel-good stories such as this one to lift everyone’s sprit.

TimSmithMP You need two things he doesn't have. A law degree and a considerable intellect.

TimSmithMP Wotalotabullshit

TimSmithMP The ratio on this is extreme! BatBoi is right on one thing, you don't have to have a law degree, but it's a good thing if you're not a dribbling idiot...

TimSmithMP However, it would be preferable if you were not actually quite DIM. dimtim

TimSmithMP The age wants you to pay for their content... Then they serve up turds like this?

TimSmithMP ' you dont need a law degree to be an effective AG' ... but he does...that's the point. dimtim Tim Smith libspill

TimSmithMP Oh god, the age has sunk so low.

TimSmithMP No thanks. The dude is a half wit at best and that’s being unfair on other half wits

TimSmithMP Why are you publishing this donutdick's drivel?

TimSmithMP Gay_Alcorn publishing this article is ridiculous. The Age is done

TimSmithMP aw Tim, you don't want to go down the path of your previous leader Michael whats-his-name & become irrelevant do you? also maybe you can build up some credibility first.

TimSmithMP However you do need a brain which Tim lacks.

TimSmithMP Wow, he really is full of himself 'eh? Was that meant to be funny? Parody? 😂 At least this opinion piece will give a great many lawyers around the nation a good belly laugh. Tim's grasp of the law is about as tenuous as his grasp on reality. 🐝 auspol

TimSmithMP You don’t have to be a far right LNP stooge to offer a Nazi salute, but it helps.

TimSmithMP No, being a good AG is not about 'courage'! It actually IS about having the technical competence to understand and defend the law! Der!!

TimSmithMP This is the crap The Age is publishing now. Sad😢

TimSmithMP You need to be supporting Victorians and that's a massive fail from this bloke.

TimSmithMP Right ... all you need is the “vibe” 🙄

TimSmithMP I think i threw up in my mouth!

TimSmithMP It would help if he had a brain thou dimtim

TimSmithMP Tim’s statement just proves that he doesn’t actually know what an AG does.

TimSmithMP You don’t need a law degree to be a lawyer FFS. Is this guy for real. LNPDisgrace

TimSmithMP You lot simply can’t be trusted, like the Herald Sun you should be run out of town.

TimSmithMP

TimSmithMP I must say all this cosplay has been a really unexpectedly fun outcome of this pandemic.

TimSmithMP

TimSmithMP You’re letting him write this? And you’re publishing it?

TimSmithMP Very on brand for the Liberal Party...unqualified, out of their depth, and completely irrelevant.

TimSmithMP DimTim alert

TimSmithMP A brain cell is also quite useful… not sure if dim tim has one of those

TimSmithMP FuckingLOL What a brain-drain this country has become. Remember when we used to applaud the cleverest among us? Not any longer. Now it's become the backwater we were in the 40s. Other country's lapdog, quarry, and garbage disposal springst

TimSmithMP You know how you asked how you could put your arms around Melbourne? This isn’t it.

TimSmithMP Tim Smith looks like he was the kid at primary school that would poo 💩 in the playground sandpit.

TimSmithMP This is just embarrassing.

TimSmithMP This is why despite getting the biggest free hit of all time, the Victorian liberal party still has absolutely no chance of taking government at the next election. That this is the best they have to offer is absolutely embarrassing

TimSmithMP They set the bar so low …. notaleaderjustaliberal

TimSmithMP Yes, yes you do need a law degree (and to be a competent legal scholar) to be an effective shadow attorney-general. To argue otherwise defeats the purpose of education, skill, experience and qualifications.

TimSmithMP Are you prepared to turn a blind eye to the violence that VicPol are meting out at the moment? If your not sure what do a google search to see the excess force... your 1 priority is to protect the citizens of this state whether you agree with their stance or not.

TimSmithMP You talk about the rule of law. Can you provide which exact laws you are talking about?

TimSmithMP

TimSmithMP You don't need to be a wanker to be a TimSmithMP ... but it helps.

TimSmithMP Gimp boy.

TimSmithMP He’s getting his claws out 🦞

TimSmithMP DimTim makes an invalid point by comparing himself with Andrew McCutcheon, who was not a gibbering idiot. The distinction is plain.

TimSmithMP Well, you certainly don’t need a medical degree to undermine public health policy..

TimSmithMP Yeah, nah…

TimSmithMP Helps to not being a blithering fool though.

TimSmithMP Hashtag not the onion

TimSmithMP Oh another reminder of why I shouldn't re-subscribe. Thanks, guys!

TimSmithMP Now we know that is just absolutely taking the piss out! 🤣

TimSmithMP Crass self-serving justification. Mr Smith quotes: “the rule of law is under severe threat in the state” but makes exception for the threat that rioters posed. What Mr Smith displays is not courage, but instead is rank opportunism, striking hypocrisy and poor discretion.

TimSmithMP LOL 🤣🤣

TimSmithMP It’s like at kindergarten where the children get to play at being an astronaut or firefighter or whatever for the day. Pure fantasy.

TimSmithMP Tim hasn't shown any evidence that he stands for either. All he does is block people for genuine criticism. What is the difference between Vic Libs and Vic Labor anyway? Atleast Andrews is original with his authoritarianism. Libs just copy.

UK woman with Down syndrome loses fight against 'discriminatory' abortion lawsA British woman with Down syndrome loses her fight against laws that allow the abortion of a foetus with the condition or other potential disabilities up until birth. Down Syndrome is detectable at 16 weeks, and a huge % of parents, given the choice, choose to maintain the pregnancy. This legislation is about other conditions - generally incompatible with life - rather than Down Syndrome. Any chance this was funded by anti-abortion campaigners as a wedge, just as anti-trans campaigns are used to try and wedge LGBT community? No-one should be forced to complete an unwanted pregnancy. So an unborn baby at 8 months and 20 or so days with Down Syndrome can be aborted?
