Data obtained by the Redfern Legal Centre revealed a high number of strip searches targeting First Nations peoples took place over the course of the pandemic.
Males were strip searched four times more than females, and young people aged 18 to 29 years accounted for 41 per cent of searches. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children represented 4.2 per cent of all strip searches from July 2021 to May 2022.
