She was intubated and died on August 26, never having met the little girl, her sister-in-law Terri Serey told NBC. Mr Macias, 39, only met his new daughter briefly before he too was intubated and died almost two weeks after his wife.Ms Serey said Mrs Macias had been unvaccinated due to her pregnancy, but she was unsure of Mr Macias' vaccination status.
Not long before Mrs Macias' death, US health authorities urged pregnant people to get the vaccine, with hospitals becoming significant COVID-19 hotspots. The Macias children, including the still-unnamed baby girl, are being cared for by their grandparents.
