Cricket Australia axed its CEO but that shouldn't be the end of the rolling heads, Peter FitzSimons says.

Eddings admitted on Tuesday that the decisions made by Roberts in recent months had been made "hand in glove" with the board.

Given such an admission, FitzSimons said it was inevitable that the board themselves should come under scrutiny. Roberts came to the CEO job with the baggage of the 2017 pay dispute with the players, where he was Cricket Australia's lead negotiator. However, a deal wasn't reached until he had been sidelined from the discussions.

It's perhaps a key reason why he lasted just 20 months as CEO, having followed James Sutherland in the role, who held the job for 17 years."I don't know Roberts personally but I feel for him, given he was given the unenviable task of making the players take a paycut in 2017," FitzSimons said."I wouldn't say that Roberts was following Bradman into bat, but given that Sutherland was there for 17 years, it's sobering to realise his successor didn't last two years.

"I work in the realm of sports journalism, so I've got to be across it. With the greatest of respect to Kevin Roberts, who I don't know, that is the point. I certainly knew who James Sutherland was. I certainly knew who Todd Greenberg was, Raelene Castle was, the current guy, Rob Clarke."If I were to mark him down on the one thing I'm qualified to mark him done on, it's total lack of penetration in the field he's in.
