Fire volunteers ignore calls to help fight NSW bushfires due to 'toxic' relations with RFS

Volunteer firefighters say they are ignoring an email request for urgent assistance with bushfires in the north of NSW because of what they describe as a "toxic relationship" with the Rural Fire Service.

"We are aiming to be as flexible as possible and the first priority will be to get the additional appliances to the area and fill them with firefighters as best we can. Please canvas your members ASAP regarding availability as above." "It is a very simple formula: look after and respect your volunteers equals volunteers willing to assist, treat them poorly equals no response."

Members told of experiencing constant and repeated acts of bullying and intimidation, sexual misconduct, verbal and physical abuse, exclusion or harassment. It also found a culture of paid staff bullying volunteer members to the point of them leaving the agency.

Very sad 😔 it’s come to this when people are losing their properties

The VFFA is not the recognised association for RFS volunteers. VFFA is known for their anarchist views towards the NSW Rural Fire Service. To push this rubbish on a day people are losing homes is very average.

🤣👏🏼 if that’s not patriotic I don’t know what is?!

perhaps there needs to be more PAID firefighters, just fuck the volunteers off, they're just not worthy!
