Firefighters in Victoria are racing against the clock to establish containment lines, ahead of soaring temperatures later this week.

Conditions have been favourable over the past 48 hours but the state control centre has urged against complacency as the mercury is expected to head into the high 30s on Thursday and 40s on

Friday. Authorities said they fear this may cause bushfires burning near Corryong in northeast Victoria to merge with another bushfire 10km away across the new South Wales border. Image: Getty

Fake charities targeting fire donors | Sky News AustraliaACCC Chairman Rod Simms says “whenever we have these disasters we do get scammers that are attracted to the fact that people do want to donate and help”.\n\n“What we’re seeing is cold calling to get people to donate.
