Andrew Gissey from Risk Frontiers says “Australian homes are just not built for truly catastrophic fire conditions” and in Sydney alone "about 100,000 homes are at risk".
"If fires do start around the Sydney, Illawarra and the Newcastle area, it’s going to be really hard to bring them under control," he said. Temperatures are tipped to climb into the high 30s on Tuesday and strong, dry winds are expected to put lives and properties at risk. Mr Gissey warned people must make decisions early and “plan to leave their homes" if their property is at risk.
