FINA has banned artistic swimmer Anita Alvarez from further participation in the 2022 World Aquatics Championships after she fainted in the pool during her routine. But after a meeting with FINA and Team USA officials she was told she could not competeEarlier this week, the Team USA swimmer was saved from the water by her coach after she fainted and sank to bottom of the competition pool in Budapest while competing in the artistic swimming solo free final.

"While FINA understands why this decision will have been disappointing to the athlete, it was a decision that was made with her best interests in mind." The world governing body for water sports said the decision was made following an hour-long meeting between Team USA's doctor and team leader, the president of USA Artistic Swimming, the executive director of FINA and representatives from FINA's sports medicine committee.

FINA should keep dance and novelty acts out of swimming competitions.

Ridiculous. FINA are now a joke. Is this them embarrassed that their lifeguards were found to be useless?

The obvious outcome. Her rescue depended on her coach knowing about her pre-existing condition & reacting with lighten speed. Too risky for the swimmer & all involved.

Fair enough with the decision. Good job by the coach - she can consider herself very lucky!

... from continuing in the competition she's currently completing in. Fuck's sake, such clickbaity rubbish.

Well that aint normal. Surely FINA should be more sympathetic. It wasn't the athletes fault she had to be vaccinated to compete.

right decision as it has happened before

'Artist swimmer' really?

Bet if it was a guy it would have been dusted off and he’d be back in the pool

Vaxx injuries are destroying many peoples lives.. Just look at people like Bruce Willis.🧐💉💉💉💉
