Senior Constable Joyce and her colleague were travelling in an unmarked police car when it collided with a Nissan Navara travelling in the opposite direction near Forbes Road, in Red Cliffs, at about 10pm on Friday.Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said early investigations suggest the driver of the Nissan veered across the road and into the path of the police vehicle, causing a head-on collision.
“No one expects to go to work and not come home," Chief Commissioner Patton told a press conference on Saturday morning. “This will obviously impact substantially across the police force and it will also impact right throughout the community. Chief Commissioner Patton said attending a fatal collision is a “difficult” thing for any police officer to do but it is “especially difficult” when it involves a colleague who has died in a “tight-knit close community”.
