Female Liberals back calls for quotas as spotlight on parliament's culture intensifies

There is growing momentum behind renewed calls for quotas to get more women into politics, as concerns about federal parliament’s workplace culture continue to grow.

Mr Morrison on Tuesday said the Liberal Party's resistance to adopting quotas was not getting"the results" desired to increase the representation of women. “There needs to be a conversation about that,” she told reporters on Wednesday. “It’s not up to me - it’s up to the party - but we need more women in the decision-making tent.”

Superannuation Minister Jane Hume says she supports quotas, but believes they alone would not remove the need for underlying cultural change. Minister for Women Marise Payne also weighed in on Tuesday, calling for the government to take a “good, hard look” at introducing focused initiatives such as quotas to boost female representation.Since Labor introduced quotas for women, almost half of the party’s members are female compared to around a quarter of the coalition’s.

Independent MP Helen Haines said on Wednesday the Australian parliament was “woefully” behind the rest of the world in terms of representation of women.

Who’d want to be associated with this corrupt lot anyway... but to be identified as being recruited to fill a quota would be just as bad as being labelled corrupt...

A lot of the dubious going on's in the federal LNP have had women involved. Sports Rort etc etc. People should be selected based on skills, ethics, ability, mental health etc, not just on gender.

Quotas don’t work. And they violate the concept of equality. Need some better ideas.

Quotas are bullshit. Hire on merit or you get substandard production.

Not so sure that many women would want to do a job in which every word you speak, and every piece of clothing you wear, is analysed and politicised to death by a media seeking to enrage the populace and make conflict just for clicks.

Quotas is only part of the problem. We need more women in parliament like Adern, not more like Cash, Bishop, MacKenzie, Reynolds etc

I don't think quotas will fix the issue. The rot comes from the foundations and will need serious government and cultural reform to fix. And no, electing Labor won't fix everything.

Make parliament reflect towards the claim Australian always proudly claim as multicultural. So for ScottMorrisonMP cabinet looks like a KKK weekend gathering.

Any women who values their safety should stay clear of that political movement of sex offenders.

Just because he’s around with women and 1 man, nothing has change the fact what has happened.

They will weild metoo’s and other allegations until it is untenable for men to be in any of these positions, that is the game. Bullying from a position of victimhood.

It won't change the rot that is in there at all.
