Female High Court judges 'far more likely' to be interrupted than male peers: study | MWhitbourn

, starting in June 2015 when Justice Michelle Gordon's appointment took the number of female judges to a historic high of three of seven members.

Female judges received 52 per cent of all interruptions in 2015-16. The figure increased after Chief Justice Kiefel's elevation: female judges received 69 per cent of interruptions in 2017, compared with 31 per cent for men. The chief justice received the highest number of interruptions, at 26.2 per cent in 2015-16, and 29.9 when Chief Justice Kiefel took the reins in 2017.Ms Loughland said this was likely because the chief justice was required to act as a "chairperson".
