Analysis: Federal results offer little heart for major parties facing next NSW election | AlexSmithSMH

If Perrottet is to retain government next year, he will need to hold and pick up state seats within those western Sydney federal electorates. Saturday’s results suggest this could be tough.

NSW Labor, which has been slowly clawing itself back from political oblivion after it was reduced to a rump of just 20 seats in 2011, must win seven seats to govern. That is a big ask. However, with Scott Morrison not expected to form government, this will give some hope to NSW Liberals subscribing to the theory that a Labor federal government will help their re-election hopes next year.Yet newly elected Willoughby MP Tim James will be sweating after North Sydney MP Trent Zimmerman lost his federal seat to independent Kylea Tink.

Penn fell short, but there was a 20 per cent swing against the Liberals, which resulted in the seat Berejiklian held for almost two decades now on a margin of 3.3 per cent – making it one of the Liberals’ most marginal seats.

Candidates make their last ditch efforts to sway voters in NSW marginal seatsSeveral candidates from the Liberal and Labor Parties as well as Independents have been visiting the polling booths, speaking to residents and casting their votes in hotly contested seats across New South Wales. I need candidates with the balls to stop coerced medications. I do not need sausage sizzles or silly compliments to get my vote.
