Political consultant jimmiddleton is calling on the federal government to do more to assist Australians stranded overseas to return home.

15/09/2020Political consultant Jim Middleton is calling on the federal government to do more to assist Australians stranded overseas to return home. He told Sky News there were about 25,000 Australians overseas “who are in various states of distress about whether they can get home or not”. “You would have thought that by now … that the federal government would have some greater plans to enable these people to get home should they wish to,” Mr Middleton said.

“I think that by having, in fact, drawn attention to the terrible plight of that bereaving family in Queensland, the PM has effectively drawn attention to himself on what is not being done as far as getting Australians, who wish to, home from overseas. “I would have thought, and I expect and hope the government is redoubling its efforts as far as that is concerned.

There is ‘no greater example of politicisation’ than Palaszczuk on borders | Sky News AustraliaQueensland Deputy Opposition Leader Tim Mander says there is no greater example of “politicising the borders” than Annastacia Palaszczuk’s recent statements regarding the pandemic.\n\nPremier Palaszczuk said if it meant she had to “lose the election, I will risk all that if it means keeping Queenslanders safe”.\n\nMr Mander said this exemplified how the Premier has been trying to play the victim by highlighting the pressures of the office rather than the “maybe thousands of people that are victims” of the border inconsistencies.\n\nThe Queensland government has recently come under fire for the process under which border exemptions are given, which saw the AFL’s top brass along with Hollywood celebrities enter the state, but family members wishing to attend funerals or see dying relatives barred.\n\n“Most people want to keep our border secure, but they don’t want an inflexible approach, an approach that lacks compassion,” Mr Mander told Sky News host Chris Kenny.\n\n“It’s about making sure we have a case by case examination.\n\n“Every time there’s a decision on exemptions or border policy, the premier says the decision lies with the chief heath officer.\n\n“It’s the premier that should be running the state, should be making the final decision, should be taking responsibility of things.\n\n“When there’s good news, she takes the responsibility, when there’s hard decision to make she blames the chief health officer.”\n\nImage: News Corp Australia TimManderMP AnnastaciaMP Nope.
