The federal government is aiming to close a loophole which allows sex workers to be funded under the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Government Services Minister Stuart Robert told Sky News the loophole is a “strange quirk”. Under current law, a person with a disability can seek funding from the NDIS to acquire the services of sex workers as treatment.

“When the law was built … because reasonably and necessary supports weren’t defined, the federal court has now ruled that the provision of sexual services – prostitutes if you like – would not be precluded from that. “We don’t believe that that’s in the spirit of what the Australian people are funding the NDIS through their taxes.”

Albanese says WA McGowan win is ‘good news’ for federal Labor | Sky News AustraliaOpposition Leader Anthony Albanese has celebrated WA Premier Mark McGowan's successful win at the state election over the weekend saying he takes “great encouragement” from it for the ALP at the next federal election.\n\n“It’s an extraordinary outcome for Mark McGowan. It’s not just about the pandemic of course, it’s about the way that WA Labor have run the economy,” he said.\n\nSpeaking about potential national consequences of the WA election result, Mr Albanese said while the outcome was “primarily about Western Australia” it had to be “good news” for federal Labor.\n\n“The fact that you have a branch of the Liberal party wiped off the map shows that they are going to struggle to run an effective campaign,' he said.\n\n“Certainly, their campaign in the state election was disastrous and it will be the same people who are running campaigns on the ground during the federal campaign.”\n\nThe opposition leader pointed out many people had voted for the ALP for the first time in this this election which shows “they are open to voting Labor” possibly in the future. \n AlboMP MarkMcGowanMP This WAelection win proves there’s zero opposition in WA.
