Federal government accepts NSW offer to help roll out COVID-19 vaccines

The general public will be able to receive their COVID-19 vaccinations from state-run hubs and clinics in a major departure from the federal government’s planned rollout.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard are at odds with Prime Minister Scott Morrison over vaccine delays.The news comes as NSW Health announced almost 30,000 people in NSW are fully inoculated against COVID-19 and more than 94,500 have had one dose of the vaccines. Ms Berejiklian had repeatedly warned the federal government it risked missing its target of vaccinating Australia’s entire adult population by October unless it allowed the state’s public health teams to help.The agreement means the state and Commonwealth will split the funding of the vaccine 50:50.

But the rollout has been marred by delays and uncertainty. In the past two weeks, GP clinics have reported having to cancel hundreds of immunisation appointments when vaccines did not arrive as expected, being assigned too few doses to vaccinate their high-risk patients and staff inundated by anxious and aggressive members of the public demanding they be vaccinated.

There is nothing wrong with the supply, it is been slowly applied to control what happens just like people returning to Australia and amounts of people allowed in venues.

Covid19NSW As the second jab is 12 weeks apart from the first one, why keeping in fridge for the second dose, just setup mass vaccine hub for whoever needs a jab then let them be. That is the model in the US which they can do 3.4 million doses in a single day.

What an absolute farce. I voted for this government and I’m bitterly disappointed that I did.

Clearly the federal government had no plan. If they had a plan why wasn't it executed? What are they waiting for?

This should have always been part of the model. Mass vaccination centres as well as GPs. What idiot thought GPs could do it on their own? They don’t have the staff or space.

Finally some leadership

About 400k visits to a GP are made every day. Anyone who has been to a doctor knows that most don't exactly have a lot of spare capacity. The idea that they could surge GP capacity to cover the vaccine program without compromising current care was always fraught. auspol
