The prime minister announced last month the government will help key industries boost local manufacturing and lift investment under a new Future Made in Australia plan, which could include tax incentives for major projects.Much of the detail of this will be unveiled in the budget, but the government has already announced a $1 billion investment in quantum computing and another $1.5 billion from the National Reconstruction Fund to increase Australia’s medical manufacturing capabilities.

Another $1 billion will be invested in solar panel manufacturing capabilities and a $556 million investment over 10 years will develop the tools to discover new deposits of rare earths and critical minerals.Also in the longer term, the government is investing $12.6 billion in research and development programs at institutions such as the CSIRO.The federal government is also spending billions either upgrading or building new infrastructure around the country, including putting an additional $3.
