The Morrison government has made an audacious bid to woo voters by announcing a $7.1 billion surplus and tax cuts worth $158 billion over 10 years in this year's federal budget | CroweDM

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg doubled down on the $144 billion in personal income tax cuts in last year's budget by offering even greater benefits to 10 million workers and surpassing the tax relief already on offer from Labor.Mark Stehle

Workers will not see a meaningful pay rise for the next 18 months under the gloomier outlook, sharpening the political contest over workplace laws as Mr Shorten campaigns on restoring penalty rates and raising the minimum wage. "Anyone who opposes it doesn't believe in easing the cost of living, incentivising hard work and rewarding Australians," Mr Frydenberg toldThe government denied the tax cuts were a "pie in the sky" promise, given they would not be legislated before the election, would take years to flow through to households and depended on optimistic forecasts for tax revenue.

The budget is likely to repeat the debate from one year ago when Labor rejected the second and third stages of the government's $144 billion tax pakage. But the government will not put the package to Parliament before the election campaign. The budget sets out surpluses worth $31.7 billion over the four years to June 2022, up from $15.3 billion for the same period in the forecasts issued last May.

CroweDM A surplus actually means that somewhere along the line we will have major cuts elsewhere. The surplus story is a myth that politicians keep spinning to the taxpayers.

CroweDM Bribes for votes.Once again the politicians are treating the working poor as mugs, the majority of low paid workers are happy to pay their fare share of tax as we want quality healthcare & education in our country.

CroweDM Nothing for pensioners or newstart.

CroweDM 'CHEECH' (THE LYING TAX PAYING TRAVELLER} and CHONG ( THE AMBITIOUS TRAVELLER) SHOW!!!!!!!

CroweDM The only party concerned with fiscal management. The Labor Party are like drunken sailors when they get the purse strings. Hang on, that’s an insult to drunken sailors, Labor is worse than that!

CroweDM I want a party to campaign on tax increases for once.

CroweDM The big print giveth and the small print taketh away.

CroweDM BS is BS no matter how they present it. auspol

Federal Budget 2019 LIVE: Josh Frydenberg attempts to woo back Liberal voters as federal election loomsHow much regard should we give tonight's budget given the election is next month? It's a good question. Follow our live budget blog here: auspol budget2019 None. I won't even be watching it. Lots of lies and bluster. None Just give me someone to vote for who isn't throwing away money in tax cuts when we need it for so many more important things, and I'm good. Start with Denticare, cutting elective surgery wait times, and creating new clean jobs as we shut down the coal industry. Who's up for it?

But transport is where the bulk of spending in Victoria is directed. All too late Morrison we needed the money 8 years ago to reduce the load on public transport, now we need to wait as another 5 years before anything gets built while we all get crushed in the trains and roads Yay! What great news- now I can look forward to being crushed an over full train in 5 years time! How exciting :D unfortunately we needed good public transport years ago... not -in years-
