Fear, fashion and face masks: Milan an unlikely battleground over a Chinese virus | bevanshields

The Italian government has moved quickly to deal with the crisis, however the economic consequences will be severe. Museums, schools and some government offices have been shut in Milan and Venice, where about one in four people are wearing face masks in public and supermarkets are being cleaned out by panicked shoppers. One checkout worker at a tourist gift shop near Milan's famed Gothic cathedral reckoned trade was down about 60 per cent on Monday and feared it would only get worse.

The immediate priority is halting the spread of infections. The stakes are extraordinarily high. If authorities can't contain the cluster, it could find its way 50 kilometres up the road to Milan and its 1.4 million residents. Italian authorities would struggle to quarantine a large and financially important city in the same way their Chinese counterparts have. Any escalation will almost certainly force France, Switzerland and Austria to introduce new checks on the borders.

I don't fear either. He got to stop thinking the voters are mugs and will fall for this bs a second time. AlboMP That’s not a dice. That’s jumping off the cliff. AlboMP this is like bob hawke's 'by 1990 no Australian child will live in poverty' Stupid unachievable out there statements, but Albo your no Bob Hawke.
