The latest annual figures, published in December 2018, show out-of-pocket costs for visits to both GPs and specialists have risen steadily since the early 1990s, where the data series begins.
It singled out Medicare rebates as a key reason for the rising cost for patients, though the freeze was only part of the problem; the college also took issue with how indexation was applied. While this was"largely due to the Medicare rebate freeze resulting in a lack of indexation", it was also because the government used the wage price index as its yardstick for indexation as opposed to consumer price index.
Ms Faux, who is completing a PhD on Medicare claiming and compliance, pointed to high salaries, expensive equipment and large insurance premiums as structural problems within medicine that could be pushing up prices. "In 2018, for example, the freeze on GP consults was lifted and was re-indexed by 55 cents, so it's not a massive amount," she said.
ABCFactCheck Not for me.

At no time did Kristina Keneally refer to another time frame or government in her statement and therefore RMIT ABC Fact Fact has taken it on themselves to add additional info that was not claimed by Keneally.
What I do know is that we now pay a $40 co-payment each visit, and previously were bulk-billed. I also know that we are not alone, and some are paying much, much more than us. NO MORE TO SAY BulkBilling MedicareRebateFreeze Election2019
I know mine have definitely gone up. Despite have the highest private insurance I’m still out of pocket a lot of money. Rebates stayed the same but fees have increased.
Why would anyone want to believe Kristina Keneally the mate of the criminals Eddie Obeid, Joe Tripodi and Ian Macdonald. The labor mob are all liars.
Guess it is not misleading 🤣🤣🤣
Check this fact ABC: the LNP will be booted to the sideline in the May elections! (I’m sure you’ll find a way to discount that one as well.)
How about parking costs at NSW hospitals? Many have no on street parking, so you are forced to use their expensive parking lots, but even the disabled receive no concessions when visiting a specialist in an on-campus suite. Shame, GladysB NotGoodEnough
Coalition is in BIG trouble. People over fifty, many millions, will knock on their doors.
I guess just like ages care the government makes ‘efficiencies’ or ‘cost savings’ but they’re definitely not cuts aye?
