Facebook made more than $500 million in Australian sales for the first time but paid just $12 million to the tax office, a result which could spark more acrimony over multinational taxation.

But the company paid $455 million to an overseas subsidiary for the "purchase of advertising inventory", leaving it to book net revenues of just $125 million in 2018.
