Mark Zuckerberg says Facebook will do more to tackle hate speech as a growing number of firms, including Coca-Cola, pull their ads from the social media platform.

"We already restrict certain types of content in ads that we allow in regular posts, but we want to do more to prohibit the kind of divisive and inflammatory language that has been used to sow discord," he added.

"There is no place for racism in the world and there is no place for racism on social media," James Quincey, chairman and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company, said in a brief statement. Coca-Cola will use the pause to"reassess our advertising policies to determine whether revisions are needed," Mr Quincey said.

In a statement on Friday the company, which owns ice cream firm Ben & Jerry's, said it was not going to advertise with Facebook, Instagram and Twitter in the US until at least the end of the year.

I’ve just done a convert from Facebook to Twitter because it’s so incredibly toxic and flooded with misinformation.

I’ll believe it when I see it, enough of the hate.

Doesn’t matter what Zuckerberg Says he’s doing I BOYCOTTED Facebook when I Banned MURDOCHS Fox from my life

Hate speech or speech that doesn’t fit your agenda, because from where I’m sitting it looks a little like censorship of anything that goes against the mainstream view. Parler is growing and Facebook and twatter will be obsolete in no time.

Good F fb in the A!!!

FAKENEWS !!!!!!

Better ban SBS and ABC from Facebook then. They have the most hate speech of all.

Great news. More people are ditching it now it became a haven for conspiracy theorists, conservative weirdos and boomers posting stupid memes. They kinda ruined it.

Social media platform's two-way standard speech review ultimately hurts its own development future.

I deleted facebook a few years ago, I don't miss it one bit.

Hateful speech = Conservative views.

Until people have moved on?

This is a step in right direction, hit him where it hurts, his purse, but he needs to do much more to entice me back to FB

'Hate speech' is whatever the establishment defines it as. If you are a dissident - whatever that means - prepare for you and your families to be rounded up and sent to the virtual gulags.

Well, how ethical of him! The money-grubbing little grub!

Think their way or be erased.

No such thing as 'hate speech'. If it's not illegal under the laws of USA then it's not illegal to post on social media platforms which are USA based companies. Legality of posts ought to be considered with reference to laws of countries where the company is based.

You mean shut down feee speech. Why does the left hate free speech? Just like socialist nazi Germany.

Facebook to label newsworthy posts that break rulesMark Zuckerberg says Facebook plans to label all posts and advertisements about voting with links to accurate information. ABC will be happy, I mean everything they have tried against Trump has not worked, and now most of them have lost their jobs because of the shame. See the constant manipulation. Think their way or else. People deciding what's newsworthy is Orwellian stuff, no wonder the ABC loves it, sad 😢.

'Vanity project': North Sydney councillors lash $58 million pool revampThree independent councillors want a planning panel to reject their own council's plans to redevelop North Sydney Olympic Pool. MeganGorrey I have walked past this pool many times and it does need a revamp but in saying that 58 million is a lot of money 💰 MeganGorrey When I swam there for the first time last year what surprised me was how rundown it is. Now after years of neglect they finally doing something. To me that indicates they are more interested in erecting a show piece rather than management and maintenance of the facility. MeganGorrey What a terrible waste of money.
