Hundreds of millions of dollars a year would be raised if two-way tolling on the Harbour Bridge, Tunnel and Eastern Distributor is adopted, as recommended by a review.

Tens of thousands of motorists a day will have to pay extra in tolls if the state government decides to impose two-way charging on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Tunnel, as well as the Eastern Distributor, raising hundreds of millions of dollars a year in revenue.

Based on the current tolling for the three motorways, more than $350 million a year could be raised if charges were imposed on the non-tolled sections. , whichever is greater. The Fels review calculated that motorists will pay a collective $64 billion over the next 37 years if the status quo remains.Tolls on the Eastern Distributor are $9.38 for cars and $18.76 for trucks. The six-kilometre motorway is one of 13 toll roads in Sydney controlled and operated by Transurban.for motorists who use the M5 motorway in Sydney’s south-west highlighted the political constraints of reform.

The M7 is Transurban’s largest toll road by volume of traffic in Sydney after WestConnex, averaging 196,000 vehicle trips a day.
