As students throughout Australia make their way to Schoolies celebrations in several states, one expert says parents should be having real conversations with them about sexual consent.

Schoolies "bucket lists" including sexist and ableist challenges have reportedly been posted onlineShe says education is the key to curb sexist behaviour

Flinders University humanities senior lecturer Dr Monique Mulholland said she was not surprised by the lists circulating among students."When I read that list, I thought, 'this is about sexual violence and it's about vulnerability' but that list is very gendered, it's very sexist, and it's very ableist.

"This is a broader cultural problem that we're facing around sexual violence and sexism, and schools really need to tackle this." Dr Mulholland said consent education will be mandated in schools next year in response to the #MeToo movement,She said the type of "banter" depicted in the list was common and it was difficult for young girls to know how to stand up to it.
