The Federal Government will completely axe the JobKeeper program in March and speculation is mounting it will be replaced by a wage subsidy scheme for small and medium businesses. Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell said the decision to cut off JobKeeper payments – detailed in papers for the upcoming budget - would reveal the “true state of unemployment” in Australia.

The first round of JobKeeper is estimated to cost $85 billion while taxpayers are expected to spend $16 billion on the second round, which has tougher eligibility requirements. “The exit was never going to be easy and the PM and Treasurer knew this,” Mr Clennell said. “The view is it cannot go on forever. The focus of the budget therefore will be on job creation, not income support.

aclennell And about time. Jobkeeper has become a huge rort. For businesses and state governments. Jobkeeper is the main reason the borders are still closed. Once removed the speed in which they open of will be amazing.

aclennell Good it’s past time this paying people to do nothing was stopped.

aclennell Best news I've seen all week. The welfare mentality is killing this country.

aclennell as predicted the people are thrown to the wolves...auspol springst this anti people pro business welfare budget should NOT pass the senate..Senator_Patrick JacquiLambie

aclennell As always its taxpayers money into the pockets of business with the LNP. This will lead to ripoffs, rorts and outright theft but you can bet there will be no ROBO-Debt.

aclennell Isn't supposed that a liberal government to be a 'small government'? It looks like it becomes a 'bigger government'. What is the difference between liberal and labor if both are spending money on wages and other payments which creates a fake economy?

aclennell would make sense, job keeper, job seeker To job maker.. going from defensive to growth. tho not sure how they will be able to do it without people scamming the system.

aclennell About time too many arrogant premiers treating their states like separate countries

aclennell give all landlords guaranteed wage. we deserve it because we own property

Air New Zealand boss says no trans-Tasman flights until MarchAir New Zealand has been hit especially hard because it makes two-thirds of its earnings from international flying, which will remain shut off long after domestic travel has returned. That compares to one-third at Qantas. Government policy is zero emissions by 2050 so closing the airline will help. I'm sure the thousands of redundant workers and their families will take comfort from the knowledge that they did their bit...to help Greta win the Nobel peace prize.
