'Everyone should get behind it': Australian NBA export Jock Landale criticises Cairns' decision not to wear pride jersey

Cairns argued they were protecting an unnamed player in the team who had been abused and "vilified" after reports of their hesitation to wear the uniform on religious grounds surfaced. The Taipans — whose major sponsor publicly opposed their decision — have insisted they support the concept, but were acting in solidarity with their player.

When told of the move by reporters after Wednesday's heavy loss to Atlanta, Phoenix Suns NBA forward and former Melbourne United star Landale didn't hold back.Jock Landale says he would happily wear an NBA pride jersey. "I believe everyone should get behind the gay pride concept and the NBA could do a job for themselves and get behind it as well."People should be able to live their lives freely and as they want.

Good on them not wearing the gay jersey keep politics out of sport they have enough gay days as it is

What difference would an unknown team wearing a rainbow jersey in a sport league no one watches make to any gay person. Most people wouldn’t even know what the Cairns Taipans are.

If sports are truly trying to be inclusive why don't they have a religious round to celebrate all the different beliefs of players and the community? Would it be embraced by everyone in sports and society? I highly doubt it, so why should we be forced to celebrate pride round?
