“Never in a million years did I think I would be in this position. It’s really special.” He told Fox Footy that in his conversations with the Giants he had not been told what position he would play. “I just can’t wait to get cracking into it and meeting all the boys.”

“Adam Kingsley and the recruiting team came down, and asked me if I wanted to know. At the start I said ‘no, don’t tell me’, but then I was like ‘nah, you gotta tell me,’” he said. “I’m glad they did. It’s been hard holding it in, but it’s been worth it.” He later spoke to the media, describing the feeling of being selected by the Lions as “awesome”, made even more special now that he’ll be moving away. “I’ve known for a little while, it’s a surreal moment to be in this position,” he said.

“Prolific across all levels he has competed in this year, I am sure everyone in and around the club is looking forward to seeing Will pull on the Lions jumper next season.”“I am so grateful. The club is in really good hands. They have really good staff and a young and exciting list,” he told Fox Footy.

Wardlaw later told reporters it was “absolutely” a rewarding feeling to get drafted as the No.4 pick after coming back from injury. As to what his pre-season would look like, he said it was a wait-and-see sort of situation.
