Maths that helps to cope with everyday life now, and in the foreseeable future, is not that hard.

Going to high school in the 1970s, I was one of those kids that hated maths and it was compulsory all the way through . The teachers would have been dedicated to that subject alone and I never thought it was due to poor teaching but rather my inability to understand. It’s not nice to have to do a subject that you’re consistently bad at, even with extra tutoring. Everyday practical maths is fine but back then it was trying to comprehend formulas that was beyond me.

Before the Voice Referendum a woman told me that Indigenous Australians would turn off the hot water if the Yes vote won. While she later backtracked, it was clear that she had been influenced byeverywhere, such as threats to homeownership or new taxes. We were told there were legal risks and our democracy would be so undermined that the. There weren’t enough details, it would backfire, it would divide the nation.
