BREAKING Ethiopian Airlines flight crashes with 157 people on board

An Ethiopian Airlines flight from the capital Addis Ababa to Nairobi, Kenya, has crashed shortly after take-off with 157 people on board.

The flight departed Bole International Airport at 8.38am local time on Sunday and lost contact with air traffic control six minutes later, according to a statement from the airline. "At this time search and rescue operations are in progress and we have no confirmed information about survivors or any possible casualties," the statement said.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's office tweeted their "deepest condolences to the families of those that have lost their loved ones". There were 149 passengers and eight crew aboard flight ET302 on a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, a direct flight between the capital cities of the neighbouring African countries.
