An NDIS participant, who claims her provider took almost $1,000 out of her pocket after her support worker finished up, is concerned the system is allowing the vulnerable to be ripped off.

A Melbourne woman who has been on the National Disability Insurance Scheme for three years says it is too easy for money to be incorrectly taken from participants.NDIS participants and advocates are concerned there are not enough checks and balances before funds are taken

"I only noticed because I happened to be on the NDIS portal to see if my new plan had been approved," Helen said.Helen complained to the provider, the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, and the NDIA fraud department. Helen now keeps a close eye on payment requests and has transferred to a self-managed plan after a second organisation failed to outline a monthly fee in their service agreement."I just cannot believe that people can do that to vulnerable people."

"We want the NDIS to be simpler and easier for everyone to use, because we want there to be less mistakes." "One of the reasons we fought so hard for the NDIS is because we wanted things to be fair," she said.Ms Deane called on the Government and the NDIA to urgently improve their IT systems.The National Disability Insurance Agency says it is working to make the NDIS easier to use.In a statement, the NDIA said it was always looking for ways to improve the service.
