A marauding mob of emus clears out from a town in WA's South West and locals are once again divided as to whether they should return.

A small town in Western Australia's South West is grappling with the recent disappearance of a marauding mob of emus that had taken on celebrity status around town. They communicate with a 'booming' sound generated in the neck and can be heard from 2km awayWhile emus have long existed in farmland and bushland surrounding Nannup, located three hours' south of Perth,Their appearance sparked debate over whether they should remain or be humanely deterred back to their habitat.

Those in favour argued the emus served as a tourist attraction and unofficial mascot for the town, otherwise known for its annual display of tulips and mythical "Nannup Tiger", a rumoured thylacine which in itself attracts devotees keen to prove its existence. Those against claimed the emus were both a traffic hazard, more likely to nibble on fruiting trees and upturn well-kept gardens.Watch
