has been extended into the weekend amid fears of a return of extreme bushfire conditions.
Hours after the extension was declared, an evacuation alert was issued in the northeast of the state in the first sign of what authorities fear lies ahead today. The alert announced yesterday afternoon covered an area west of Mt Buffalo that includes Bennies and Cheshunt South.After a few days of respite, two emergency warnings were also issued yesterday in the north-east as fire crews brace for temperatures of up to 40C that has prompted a total fire ban for parts of the state today.
Four Emergency warnings remain in place this morning - with two of those also including "Evacuate now" alerts. The affected regions are: Mount Buffalo, Bennies, Cheshunt South, Combienbar and areas east of Abbeyard. Winds with peak gusts of up to 90km/h are expected with a risk of thunderstorms in the eastern ranges and eastern parts of the state as part of a change.
