Dr Angela Jackson, the lead economist at Impact Economics and Policy who authored the report, says reforms to lift female workforce participation are urgently needed “to meet current and future skill gaps”.“Ten times the number of women compared to men cite not wanting a job or more hours due to caring and home duties as the main reason,” Jackson’s report says.
“Nations with more generous paid parental leave – that is equally shared between parents – tend to have higher rates of female labour force participation,” it says.Analysis by Impact Economics and Policy shows workers in female-dominated industries with a bachelor’s degree or above earn 30 per cent less an hour than workers in male-dominated industries with the same qualifications.
