Dyson ends bid to produce 'fantastic' electric car

Mainstream manufacturers have also ramped up investment in electric engines to meet much toughened anti-pollution rules.

Dyson selected Singapore — a country that does not have any existing car manufacturing — to build the car, which was to be mostly targeted at the Chinese market and others in Asia. Some 500 engineers were working on the project, mostly based at its site in Malmesbury and Hullavington in southwest England.

Although Dyson is closing its automotive division, it said it would continue to develop solid state batteries, and other technology including vision systems, robotics, machine learning and AI.

They built one prototype, apparently it sucked

Drat! I could fancy saying that I drive a Dyson, just to see the confusion.

A unique individual. He turned a relatively inexpensive household cleaning device into a $600+ piece of art that sucks. How did he do that? He took the bag out & told us we would want to see dirt & you still have to empty it. A genius & all power to him...🥳

It is not the growth market that he fantasized it would be because most people can't afford to switch to electric vehicles and there are discoveries in the labs right now which will make all current batteries junk value within the next 5 years. He jumped in bit early.

Tesla has only ever tried to turn a profit to secure funding, thair intention is to grow market share, it's basic startup practice, like Amazon. If you are counting on them turning a profit every quarter dream on, they have several production lines, models, and countries to grow

Widespread manufacture of EVs remains a fantasy for the foreseeable future. Hybrids are the way forward atm.

Might be very clever people but who's idea was it to start up a car manufacturing business from scratch in Singapore which currently has no car manufacturing business?
