In a long-standing tradition, the release of 10,000 ducks rids rice paddies of pests — such as cherry snails, apple snails and weeds — as well as providing a rich source of nutrients for the water birds.

Thousands of ducks have been set loose in rice paddies in Thailand for a regular clean-up that benefits rice and duck farmers alike.

The release of the Khaki Campbell ducks, a British breed, is part of "ped lai thoong" — a long-standing tradition in the region. From just 20 days old, the ducks roam the region's paddies for about five months before being mustered back to the duck farm to produce eggs for up to three years.

PM continues to 'duck and weave from responsibility': Albanese | Sky News AustraliaOpposition Leader Anthony Albanese has slammed Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the federal government for not using national resources to bring stranded Australians home from overseas. \n\n“It is simply unacceptable that the prime minister continues to say there is nothing he can do about and he hopes to have these families home by Christmas,” Mr Albanese said. \n\n“Well I think those who are desperate to get home should be brought home in September. \n\n“It’s not like there’s a shortage of hotel space in this country, the prime minister might have noticed that tourists aren’t coming here and hotels certainly have available space, so it is just beyond my comprehension how the prime minister can continue to duck and weave from responsibility on this issue. \n\n“The federal government is reasonable for quarantine. This states issue is just an excuse for non-action. \n\n“The Australian government is in charge of our borders or its in charge of nothing. \n\n“The only thing that is missing here isn’t hotel space, its leadership and the prime minister can show leadership by giving his plane, which by and large is not being used at the moment, to bring Australians home.” \n\nImage: News Corp Australia AlboMP ScottMorrisonMP Good old Fat Albo whining again.... Assange defence questions why Obama didn't seek to prosecute himAssange is facing 18 counts of violating the Espionage Act for encouraging former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning to hack into defence systems. He will be behind the scenes. Obummer and Hillary and their dark networks. Idiot question. If he wants prosecution, give it to him. Who is to say they didn't! I am sure they intended to but everyone knows that is exactly what Assange fears most in the world. A US prison. Making those indictments public would only encourage him to stay in that embassy longer. Thats why he had to be dragged out screaming

Australia potentially relying on foreign rice production is ‘laughable’: Alan Jones | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Alan Jones says the imminent collapse of Australia’s rice industry is purely a metaphor for a wider problem.\n\nIt was revealed on Monday, Australia’s total rice production is down 80 per cent.\n\nThe Chief Executive of Sunrice – one of Australia’s biggest rice producers – said the country is at risk of running out of rice by Christmas, as the company slashed a third of its workforce.\n\nMr Jones said this has been “an ongoing disgrace,” pointing the finger at the growing issue of Australian water allocation as a primary cause.\n\nAustralian farmers have not only had to suffer through drought, but given the nature of private water holdings, some have been unable to access the necessary resource to continue production.\n\n“We have the most productive and the most efficient rice industry in the world,” Mr Jones said.\n\n“The issue today is whether or not we’re going to maintain supply here by importing from Vietnam.\n\n“We’ll face the problem of having to import food from overseas. It’s laughable.”\n\nImage: News Corp Australia AnnastaciaMP is credlin sucking scott morrisons dick now? how does tony abbott feel about that?
