weighing more than 25 tonnes - equivalent to the weight of four large adult male African elephants - have been destroyed at specialised furnaces across the country in temperatures of up to 1400 degrees.
The furnaces vaporise the drugs into steam that is channeled through a series of filtration systems until it is harmlessly released. AFP Crime Command Detective Superintendent Russel Smith said the furnaces had vaporised the profits of organised crime gangs. The 4.3 tonnes of methamphetamine destroyed this year had an estimated street value of nearly $3.9 billion.
The drug destruction programs follows the AFP ramping up pressure in 2021 on transnational serious organised criminals attempting to import drugs into Australia.
Good one! That's real great for the environment!
Really bad for the environment, crazy pollution.
GOOD JOB!....IT'S IMPERATIVE TO GET ILEGAL DRUGS OUT OF THE STREETS.🇦🇺👏👏👏👏
Must be what the Corrupt cops (not talking about legitimate cops) couldn't fit in their cars.
We remember 9's 'top hashtags' post the other day. Can we trust anything 9 says? 5 billion seems a little high, it was probably 2 billion if 9News says 5.
Put 30% tax on them and we could build a 30km toll free motorway every year. Marijuana has been $20 for 1.3 grams for the last 30 years. Thanks to the police, there has been no inflation at all.
That's gonna be healthy for our carbon footprint.
But lnp won't buy water carrier planes for firefighting. auspol margaretriver
