Locals are calling for the rocks to be shifted before the dam fills with water again.

"We grew up hearing about the legend of the treasure hidden beneath the lake and now we finally get to view them," Angel Castano told Spanish news site The Local."And the stones, which are granite and therefore porous, are already showing signs of erosion and cracking, so if we don't act now it could be too late."

Tweet from DavidGarridoBaz: "What a wonder of photos of #DolmenGuadalperal that has been discovered has shared us..." Mr Castano wants to see the stones moved to a safer location on higher ground before the reservoir fills with water again. But University of Alcala history professor Primitiva Bueno Ramirez told Atlas Obscurer that moving the stones could damage them even further."It may cost money, but we already have one of the most difficult things to obtain — this incredible historic monument," Professor Ramirez saidThe petition is calling for the Spanish Ministry of Culture to preserve the monument, and in just one month has attracted more than 43,000 signatures.
