Scary footage has surfaced of a massive waterfall spewing onto the M1 Pacific Motorway during heavy rain in Sydney on Thursday.

Water was filmed gushing from a roadside cliff onto the M1 Pacific Motorway on Thursday as severe thunderstorms lashed Sydney and its surrounding areas.

Traffic appeared to be banked up for kilometres, with vehicles forced into a slow crawl as they competed against heavy rainfall and deep, lengthy stretches of water on the road.
