An artwork portraying a confronting act is among the pieces that have been shortlisted for the Australian War Memorial 's 2024 Napier Waller Prize, which has a history of tackling a broad range of issues faced past and present Australian Defence Force personnel.The work, titled The Impossible sit-up challenge, explores what artist Steven Bostock describes as the "blurry line of camaraderie and the abuse culture, which exist in the army".
"We had quite a varied response from the artists, all of whom are either current or former service personnel,'' she said. He said although there had been changes in the ADF, there would always be some level of inappropriate behaviour among personnel.
