Dr Viet Tran is the deputy director of the Royal Hobart Hospital's emergency department. He's sharing his experiences of emergency medicine in the hope that some of the challenges faced by EDs can be overcome, and better understood by the community.

Dr Viet Tran is drawn to the 'controlled chaos' of emergency medicine , and he's keen to share his insights Viet Tran wants to take people "behind the curtains" of a busy hospital emergency department , and share insights into the "controlled chaos" he works in.He is also an associate professor of emergency medicine at the University of Tasmania and a founding director of the Tasmania n Emergency Medicine Research Institute.

"It's one of those special departments where you're working side-by-side with nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists, clerical staff, cleaners and aides, and you all have to work together for a common good," he said. "I have found that, I guess, both challenging and inspiring to have coaching that the TEDx crew have given me, to be able to really communicate well with the non-medical crowd.""Speaking to a lot of friends who are non medical, it became quite obvious that everyone has some sort of understanding that there might be a problem or that there is a problem," he said.
