A majority of readers surveyed by The Australian Financial Review say the Reserve Bank of Australia should raise interest rates during the election campaign.

think the Reserve Bank of Australia should act quickly and raise interest rates during the election campaign., 70 per cent of readers agreed that the RBA should lift interest rates in May rather than waiting until June as bank governor Philip Lowe had previously flagged.

“Rates have been too low for too long, so they need to normalise and that will start in May,” one reader wrote. The poll, which surveys 666 readers on economy-wide issues every fortnight, found 61 per cent of readers were more concerned about the cost of living as a result of the surge in inflation.At the halfway point in the election campaign, 78 per cent of readers said their mind was made up about which party they planned to vote for on May 21.

Doesn’t matter now its too late, any move now won’t stop inflation. So sad it had to go this way, but Australians never learn.

Interest rate ~ price control... NOT political TOOL

Is that a serious question? They should have moved before now.

Raising rates in May is the responsible thing to do to control inflation. Not doing so may look as though they are being influenced by the election.
