Magpies who swoop from the back wound people much more rarely than those which attack head on, when horrific injuries including eye damage can be inflicted. The Academy suggests, seemingly counter-intuitively, that getting closer to magpies may help. Specifically, befriending them.
If you're not willing to walk your bike through the swooper's territory, then definitely stock up on those googly eyes. Lawrence Orel from the National Parks and Wildlife Service told nine.com.au that in many cases, magpies who swooped had often been provoked in previous seasons.I have enough friends. Can I just avoid being swooped?
Why is a news network capitalising on a horrific experience of a child due to neglecting acts of a father? Then post note on tips to avoid being swooped!
Funny how it was more important to film his son rather than protecting him. The joys of being famous on social media
It takes some sort of parent to film while their child is terrified.
Incredible parenting
The forbidden sidewalk
Spring time in Australia
The kid will be fine, it's just a bird, I grew up on a farm, swooped many years in a row riding the push bike kms to the bus stop without the protection of my parents. Encountered snakes in summer, fell off in the gravel, not traumatized. Let the kid learn, he'll be fine.
bad dad
hahhaha terrible dad 😂
Poor little guy
Really ? no one came to rescue the boy? shocking! who ever who took the video should be so ashamed of him/herself for not going to help out the boy but watch him getting traumatized. hope the boy is ok.
What a dad , prefers to film !!!
We have found that a Drone SCARS the birds OFF 😉👍‼
That’s a form of child abuse Should have his child removed from his care and have to prove that he is a responsible father before he can get custody of his child again like what happens to other responsible parents that have there children taken for no reason
It should be legal to hunt magpies
We grew up being swooped, it’s just an Aussie thing. Kids today are such soft pussies. All this talk of being traumatised. The big wide world is far worse.
This isn't funny. The kid's obviously traumatised and they can cause injury too. Father's more interested in fame
The dad that was ‘on hand to film’ should’ve been running to his son to help the poor boy instead of firing up the footage reel
Is it a bad thing that I laughed and reflected on my magpie experience? 🤔
Why would post this? He will cop so much stick for this - for the rest of his life... Please delete the post.
For those of you who say you feed them, what do you feed them? Seeds? Bread? Genuinely curious. We have quite a few around our place and i would like to know how to be peaceful with them 😳
the boy is fast you have to give him that 😆😆😆
Clearly dad wants to get his go viral video at the expense of his son.
“With his dad on hand to film the relentless attack...” sure it’s more important to film than help the little boy 🤦🏻♂️
Oh no
Bunch of snowflakes in the comments lol
So you terrified the boy my making him recreate the swooping attack.
Go pies ....
And dad just stands there filming when walking over and standing beside his son would have stopped it
Congratulations on your 15 seconds of fame.
Oh only in Australia 😂😂
Magpies are the devil
The father should have grabbed his son instead of filming it, that poor boy was obviously terrified 😠
Poor thing, he’s so frightened ☹️
You can’t say life is not an adventure!
The old man’s a bit of a c**t isn’t he.
We had a swooping magpie outside our house. He almost only attacked ppl on bikes or scooters wearing helmets
Feed them they can remember faces and they WILL NOT swoop I have been doing it for years and now with more magpies around have not been swooped yet and for the record go Cats
criancafazendoM
Poor kid. It’s terrifying
Why is moron filming this not helping this poor chap?
If I were the father I will take the bird out. You take my son I’ll take you
SandyRo83198047 Leave them alone ,they have young to Protect and Care for too...understanding that we must keep our young safe as well.
That is disgraceful parenting from a Mum whose son is still traumatised by birds. I wasn't there to protect him but parents take bullets for their kids.
That is not funny dad!!! 😠😡Omg, what kind of heart you have🤔 the boy was going to make an accident and injure himself while you are laughing and enjoying how your son is screaming. I didn’t like it at all your son breaks my heart
The kids fine it's funny and it's a australian tradition straya
Come on dad.... Camera down and give him a hand..
Hitchcock
deanlef Get ready for this!!!
one determined Maggie lol never seen one go that long , the maggies at my place dont swoop not sure why some do and some dont
I hope the magpie came back and pecked his “father’s” eyes out!! The father should be reported to the police. Who would allow a child to be traumatised like this And film it
Ah, I remember being this terrified. Eight years old, learning what a real adrenaline dump feels like. Then again a few years later, while doing a newspaper round, one actually got me and drew blood. Still didn't get traumatised like some people in these comments suggest.
Haha that’s the funniest thing I’ve seen today!
Character building stuff
The horror?Fuck off it happens every year, protecting their young, get over it.
So the father thought it was funny to see his son continually swooped by a magpie. Disgusting.
An age old Australian tradition. Welcome to the party kid.
Most comments are on not helping the boy but filming. 1. That is nature. 2. Stress-free education ist questionable. 3. No serious threat to the boy. 4. Why to harm an animal taking care of his young? 5. In Germany they not only protect birds, but wolves that been extinguished.
DownloaderBot
and these pests are protected.. farsical
Funny as . Next time bring a tennis racquet
One of if not the funniest thing I’ve ever seen..
Lol
On a major road with traffic flying past?
Shit Dad
Here's a thought... put your phone away and help your child... i mean really... 🤦🏻♀️
Take a cricket bat when you go out 🤷🏻♂️
Maybe being covered up and moving that fast confuses them, and they feel threatened. I have copious magpies and bird families in my garden, I feed them, and in many, many years, I’ve have never had one try to attack me. Infact, they’re more scared of humans & I don’t blame them!
Does the father live in Fuckwit, NSW?
Why would he just film it and not help his son?
Hope he is ok
Very funny...... we all were attacked by magpies at some stage. My parents never came to the rescue.
Lol. The first ‘tip’ they recommend is ‘making friends’ with the magpie.
Wearing a helmet...soft
Laughs in dad* at the 'horror'
Alfred Hitchcock-Birds
I Bought a bag of worms from the bait shop amd take a couple to throw when I walk my dog since one started swooping us. Now they just go for the food and leave us alone. Viscous bastards. Lol 😂
Everyone is so butt hurt by this 😂😂 this literally happened to all of us as kids
Staged
Easy tip don’t ride your scooter where the bird is nesting simple
The kid will be traumatized of birds for the rest of his life.
Need to call this lady
Character building!! 👍
Fuck could of helped the kids
Modern generation - on your phone and doing nothing to help.
Poor boy has to face a permanent Magpie ( Dad) too!
Boy is on obvious distress but father rather film than help. Father of the year
Father of the year, right here!!!
Bastard of a dad.
What a jerk of a father, then to post it on social media. Poor kid was terrified.
OK but why is he filming instead of trying to help his scared child?
lol
Great parenting, to allow your child to be scared like that while you're filming!
