Ditch the ‘digital workhouse’: Shorten sets sights on myGov | katinacurtis

Labor wants to end the “digital workhouse” approach to people trying to get government payments, with new minister Bill Shorten planning to turn using myGov from an often-frustrating experience into a seamless one.

“They’ve created digital workhouses, basically. You know, workhouses were a 19th century place where the kind-hearted burghers of Victorian England and Australia said, ‘Well, if we’ve got to pay you for three meals a day, you can go and work in a workhouse,’” he said. The minister’s most recent interaction with myGov was downloading his digital vaccination certificate.

katinacurtis It is easy

katinacurtis Give Shorten a parade if he sorts out this utter bureaucratic nightmare.

MarieColemanAO katinacurtis There are still plenty of people who cannot use technology, do not have access to it or simply prefer to speak to a human being. Just because technology is ready - it doesn’t mean society is ready or fully accepting/trusting of technology.

katinacurtis THIS is exactly what we expect from our Labor government. Too many left frustrated and deeply, deeply depressed with the current situation.

katinacurtis Employ people on the phones Shorty.

katinacurtis Bill- Never doubted you would get this Centrelink Albatross to work for the people and no longer against them - the current system is demoralising and an obscenely incompetent system that destroys and “takes” lives; rather than support and embrace those dependant upon it

katinacurtis Great. Lots of room for productive innovation that doesn’t involve giving contracts to unqualified mates ( looking at you Stuart Roberts )

katinacurtis totally agree its wooden and frustrating

With electricity costs set to soar, is it worth forking out for rooftop solar?Rising electricity bills have some people warming to the idea of solar power. So how much does it cost to switch to solar and how long will it take to pay off? We asked the experts. Well the NT government has just made it more expensive, so......thanks? Yes and no. Most people cant use their solar to reduce bills simply because they cant use the power generated. If you work 9-5 you arent home when solar works. About the only thing you can do is run your dishwasher washing machine and dryer. The rest goes to the grid 0-10c /kwh Use existing suburban houses as solar farms instead of clearing land. Hahahaha yea right.
