Questions have been asked of the length of time it took for passengers to be allowed off a plane after it was forced to return to Sydney due to an emergency.

Flight MH122 destined for Malaysia returned to Sydney about 3.45pm on Monday afternoon, just two hours after leaving, when a man wearing a backpack strapped to his stomach began yelling at fellow passengers.

Velutha Parambath said people onboard became more agitated the longer it took for them to be able to alight from the plane. The police response has been criticised after it took more than two hours for passengers onboard a Sydney plane to be directed off. Picture: NCA NewsWIRE/ Monique Harmer“I’d say the anxiety levels really peaked with the fact that the federal police took two and a half hours to come and rescue us from the tarmac,” Mr Parambath told Sky News Australia’s Peter Stefanovic on First Edition.

When Stefanovic asked the passenger if he felt the AFP should’ve acted faster, Mr Parambath agreed without hesitation.
