The federal budget rolled out a number of measures directed at women, but how much of an impact will they have?

More money, fewer expenses and some further safeguards for the future – on balance, this was not a bad budget for women, who make up 51 per cent of our population.The latter will boost lower paid workers’ income – and women hold a disproportionate number of such jobs. Those on $50,000 to $130,000 will see the biggest benefit from the change. The tax cut will now be $929 a year for someone on $50,000, while the average will be about $1650.and childcare.

But Grattan says another failing of the super system is for renters with its modelling suggesting that home ownership among over-65s is on course to drop from 76 per cent today to 57 per cent by 2056. Meanwhile, repeated HILDA studies show older, single, renting women already have the highest poverty rate in the country.

Women are contending with many issues and towards the beginning it says: “The government respectfully acknowledges and regrets the loss of those who have died and the harm and distress caused to those who are affected by violence, suicide, self-harm, stillbirth or miscarriage.” Money has been allocated to help in all these areas.
