) proves the “people’s princess” has found new life in the public imagination almost 25 years after her death in a car accident in Paris.star turned indie darling will play the Princess, was released on Monday. It shows the 30-year-old actor, who has in the past been mocked for her emo-goth tendencies, transformed into a passable facsimile of the one-time Princess of Wales, who was 36 when she died in August 1997.

In season 5, due next year, the role will be handed over to Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki, who will surely be hoping she fares better than the last Australian to take it on. The movieLoading Ms Rieden, though, thinks what we’re seeing is less an “upsurge” in interest than a continuation of it. “We know more now about Diana than we ever did, so people are able to create a much fuller version of her,” Ms Rieden says. “We know her faults, but people are more understanding of why her marriage to Prince Charles was never going to work. We know now that these two people should never have got married, that it wasn’t anybody’s fault.”
