Around 3,700 passengers and crew on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship face up to two weeks in quarantine after two Australians tested positive for coronavirus.

They, along with eight other patients, have been transferred to Japan's mainland for medical treatment while the ship is held at the port city of Yokohama, about 25 miles from Tokyo.

The disease was first detected in an 80-year-old passenger who departed the vessel in Hong Kong last week. Investigations are underway to determine the source of the outbreak. Image: AP
