Ms Deves has created division within the Liberal Party over her social media posts about transgender people after MPs called on the Warringah candidate to be disendorsed. The Liberal candidate for Warringah is being backed by Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who defended his decision to not disendorse Ms Deves.

“I think the government sees this issue as to their advantage; they’re saying they’ll be tougher on transgender women in sport,” Mr Clennell said.“The press conference today was really a bit of a bun fight.”
